Master Spinner Level 3
Hello from Gibson's Landing. Today started levle 3 of the Master Spinners Certificate. Interesting and a little distressing at the same time. I'll explain later. Only 6 of us this time and 3 of us are from my first class I took 2 years ago. Seems I'm the only one who's finished my level 2 workbook.
This course is going through a change. It used to be an instructor with a bunch of notes and handouts. Now the college is in the middle of updating and this year we actually have a workbook to work from. They are still trying to work the bugs out though. Today we worked on refresher stuff, so wool only. Did an interesting exercise though. Spin a two ply skein as loose as you can. Measure off 3 yards. Take that three yards and add way more twist. Some people lost length, some gained. I gained almost a yard. I started out with a single of cotswold cross at about 3 tpi. Plied that at about 1.5 tpi then put it back and plied at 13 tpi. It was truly springy.
We will be doing silk hankies, cocoons and roving. Also ramie and cotton. So much to learn, so little time.
