Wednesday afternoon 4:30 pm, get the dog from animal control.
Wednesday evening about 5:30 pm, go to town with sister to do a couple of errands
Wednesday evening about 6:00 pm arrive home to find dog gone. Again.
Thursday morning go to animal control at 9:00 am to give them a 'heads up'. Arrive to find Bacchus already there in a holding pen. $45 to bail the boy out because he was brought in by the police for chasing cats.
Keep the dog in sight all day Thursday. Feed the dogs in the afternoon, go in house, get a call about 8:00pm from couple that just picked up the dog. Go out to get him. I have to literally drag him into the yard.
Keep dog in the house all night. Let him out about 7 am. Get call at 7:30 am from someone who picked him up. Same routine as night before.
Friday afternoon, go and get replacement radio collar. $129. Collar is working. Put collar on dog. about 4:30 get call from neighbor that she has the dog. Same routine as before. Sit outside with dog. Turn head for a moment, see him out of the yard at neighbors. Drag the dog home. This is exhausting. 8pm, DH arrives home. We find escape route and reset the radio frequency for more persuasion. So far so good.
I even went so far as to ask our vet what the heck. He said: He's found a way out and if he wants to go, he will. Short of keeping him locked up in a kennel (which I wont do) or stapled to my hip (unfeasible) what the heck is a mother to do??? Rhetorical. Man, it's almost as bad as having a 2 year old.
This a.m. I printed up fliers in english and spanish intending to paper the neighborhood. I decided the first stop would be the animal shelter to give them a heads up. The culprit was seen incarcerated at the facility upon arrival. I bailed him out for $45 dollars. Apparently he hadn't got too far last night and was picked up by the local police for disturbing the peace by going after cats. The folks at animal control hadn't even had time to scan him and give me a call before I showed up. Now safely back in custody with a new id tag let's hope he figures out how lucky he is not to have been run over. Sit. Stay.
